Wellington Welcomes Dr. Nicholas Williams as Director of Athletics and Physical Education 

Wellington is excited to welcome Dr. Nicholas Williams as our new director of athletics and physical education, beginning July 1, 2025! A former multi-sport, state championship-winning high school athlete and Division I track and field student-athlete, Dr. Williams brings extensive experience in athletics, independent schools, and higher education, most recently serving in student life at Vanderbilt University. 

“I am both humbled and exhilarated to join the extraordinary Wellington community,” shares Dr. Williams. “With deep knowledge and passion for fostering excellence in athletics and physical well-being, I look forward to inspiring our students and helping them succeed.” 

Fun fact: Dr. Williams attended Wellington as a prekindergarten student and remains in touch with several classmates, including alumni board member and Wellington Trustee, Jacob Robinson ’10.

Wellington Welcomes Ms. Nicole Franks as Assistant Head of Early Childhood and Lower School 

Wellington is excited to welcome Ms. Nicole Franks as our new assistant head of early childhood and lower school, beginning July 1, 2025! With over two decades of experience in early childhood and lower school education, Ms. Franks has spent the past 15 years at Laurel School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, leading early childhood programs and supporting students, faculty, and families. 

“Choosing Wellington is about more than joining a dynamic community—it’s about fostering an environment where students, educators, and families can grow together, challenge one another, and create lasting impact,” shares Ms. Franks. “I am delighted and honored to be part of a school deeply committed to belonging.”

State of the School & All Things Wellington 2025 - February 20

You are invited to an evening celebrating Wellington’s community and vision for the future. On Thursday, February 20, at 6:30 p.m., Head of School Eliza McLaren will deliver a State of the School address, providing key insights into her learnings about Wellington, updates on current programs and initiatives, and announcements about upcoming plans and the strategic planning process. Additionally, the evening will showcase student performances and include videos that highlight Wellington’s enduring values. This event is open to all members of the Wellington community, including parents, caregivers, faculty, staff, alumni, and members of the Board of Trustees. We look forward to seeing you there. The Athletic Boosters Piada Spaghetti Dinner & Online Auction is back Friday, February 7, from 4:30-8:30 p.m.! Enjoy a delicious meal and stick around to cheer on our varsity basketball teams and celebrate our senior winter athletes. Tickets are $10 per person if purchased in advance, with proceeds benefiting Wellington Athletic Boosters. WPA Leadership Lab is Rescheduled to February 27

Parents and caregivers are invited to join the Wellington Parents Association on Thursday, February 27, from 8:30-11:30 a.m., for a sampler of the Upper School Leadership Lab. In this unique session, you'll experience and co-create together a change-making process that will build our connectedness as a team and offer a chance for us to formulate a shared vision for our work together. As leaders in the school, this promises to be a rare chance for this group of caring parents and caregivers to come together for deep listening, connection, and collaboration around our common purpose - our Wellington community and ensuring all thrive in it! This session is facilitated by the Leadership Lab founders, parents Jenn and Jason Miller P ’26, and Head of Upper School Rishi Raghunathan. Sign up now!

Grandparent Information Needed for Grandparents & Special Friends Celebration - May 2

Grandparents and special friends are invited to our annual celebration on Friday, May 2, 2025. We need your help to ensure invitations are sent to grandparents. Please log in to your Veracross parent portal and navigate to Family Profile Changes, Household Contacts, and Contacts for My Children to ADD grandparent email and mailing addresses (please no parent information). For existing grandparent records, you must email to share address updates. To request that grandparents DO NOT receive a printed or digital invitation in March, email eggleton@wellington.org by February 15. If your child does not have a grandparent to attend on May 2, consider sharing the registration link with a special friend (18+) once registration opens on March 28. Questions? ISACS Parent Webinar Series - February 12

The Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS) continues its parent webinar series with “Squish the Peas: Life Lessons from Toddlers on How to Live a Happier, Healthier Life.” Pediatric emergency physician and author Dr. Hasan Merali will share insights on how toddlers excel at kindness, play, teamwork, and risk-taking — habits that can improve the well-being of both children and adults. ATHLETICS


Winter Sports Update

Winter Sports Senior Recognition at Spaghetti Dinner - February 7 
Between the girls and boys basketball games (approximately 7:30 p.m.), there will be a ceremony to celebrate all our winter sports athletes, including swimming and diving, boys basketball, girls basketball, bowling, and cheer. Be sure to pop into Gard Gym at that time to help celebrate all 15 of our seniors! Learn more about the Spaghetti Dinner.  

Upper School: 

Upper School Girls Basketball: 
The upper school girls basketball team currently has a 16-4 record and has locked in a three seed for the District Tournament. They host Liberty Christian on February 13, at 7 p.m., for their first tournament game! Be sure to come out to support seniors Elodie Ware ’25 and Ishana Samaranayake ’25 this Friday at the Spaghetti Dinner as they take on Independence at 6 p.m.! 

Upper School Boys Basketball: 
Despite missing two starters, the boys basketball notched a huge 62-41 league win over Millersport! The team was led by Will Flinn ’28 with 19, Noah Ehlers ’25 with 16, and Will Myers ’28 with 11. Come out to support seniors Malcolm Wade ’25, Noah Ehlers ’25, and Hash Kesani ’25 this Friday at Spaghetti Dinner as they take on Berne Union at 8 p.m.!

Upper School Swimming and Diving: 
The upper school swimming and diving team competed in the MSL Championship meet this past weekend. The boys team finished 2nd out of 8 teams, while the girls finished 4th. The team posted 17 personal best scores, 11 first-place finishes, 4 second-place finishes, and 3 third-place finishes. Three swimmers won all four of their races (Cameron Petitt ’25, Kai Rozmiarek ’25, and Jack Mahaffey ’27). Cameron Petitt set a new school record in the 100 butterfly with a time of 52.27! The team competes in sectionals this weekend, with the boys competing in the morning at Columbus Academy and the girls in the afternoon at Columbus School for Girls! 

Upper School Bowling:
The upper school bowling team competes in the MSL Championship this Friday at Wayne Webb’s Columbus, starting at 8 a.m.! 

Middle School: 

Middle School Girls Basketball:
Both of our middle school girls basketball teams will be hosting tournament games this year. The 7th grade team clinched the number 1 seed and will play Grove City Christian on Monday at 6 p.m., while the 8th grade team clinched the 2 seed and will play Bishop Rosecrans on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.! 

Middle School Boys Basketball: 
Both of our middle school boys basketball teams will be hosting tournament games this season! The 7th grade team clinched the 3 seed and will play Fairfield Christian on Saturday at 4:45 p.m., while the 8th grade team clinched the 2 seed and will play Miller on Saturday at 6 p.m.! 

Middle School Swimming: 
On January 14, the middle school swim team participated in their championship meet, finishing 4th overall despite only having eight girls competing in the meet! The 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay teams of Emily Ricci ’29, Madeleine Scantland ’30, Avery Pugh ’29, and Adela Palmer ’29 broke the school record in both events, finishing third in both events with times of 2:05:09 and 1:56.04 respectively! The meet also saw nine personal bests, 2 second-place finishes, 3 third-place finishes, and a school record by Adela Palmer ’29 in the 100 free with a time of 1:00.20.
