Dear Parents and Caregivers,
Welcome back! After a well-deserved break, we’re excited to see your children’s smiling faces and start fresh together. A new year brings renewed energy and focus, and we can’t wait to continue our shared journey of curiosity, growth, and meaningful learning.
Already this school year, our students have been immersed in incredible learning experiences. From kindergarten passion projects exploring marine animals and unique sports like rock climbing to hands-on science labs and a challenging gymnastics unit in lower school PE, each child has had the chance to grow their knowledge and push themselves. These experiences aren’t just about the skills they build but about the bigger picture: understanding more about the world and discovering more about who they are within it.
Please note the upcoming events:
- Our second through fourth graders will hit the slopes at Mad River on January 15. Taking students skiing is one of Wellington’s longest-standing traditions, and beyond being fun skiing with your friends, the experience results in students growing their independence and growth mindsets about trying something new or difficult.
- Love and Limits Parent Coffee on January 15 at 8:15 a.m. in the Doerschlag Den: Parenting today can feel overwhelming with all the competing advice—gentle parenting, firm boundaries, or something in between. How do you find the balance that works for you and your child? Join us to learn practical strategies, share in meaningful conversations, and leave feeling more confident in your parenting journey! You may RSVP here.
- Our fourth graders are headed to sleep-away camp in February, and Mrs. Stager is excited to share all the Glen Helen details with parents of fourth grade students on January 16 at 6 p.m. in the Thomas Family Dining Room.
- Looking ahead, please mark your calendars for February 7, when we will celebrate friendship with our ECLS Friendship Parties! Early childhood will gather at 10 a.m., and lower school will celebrate at 2:30 p.m. The events will feature healthy snacks, games, and a class project focused on giving back to the community. While we won’t exchange cards or trinkets, this will be a meaningful opportunity for children and families to celebrate friendship and service together.
- Join us on February 20 at 6:30 p.m. for All Things Wellington. This special evening offers an opportunity to hear from our head of school, Mrs. McLaren, as she reflects on the school year and shares exciting plans for the future. Reserve your seat.
As I reflect on the vibrant energy around our campus today, I can't help but feel incredibly grateful for the community we share. From the excitement of first graders preparing for their first ice skating lesson, to the enthusiastic engagement in a fourth grade math classroom (who knew bar models could be so fun?) and even the joyful sound of Little Jags sledding down the hill at Roberts Field - it's clear that we are truly lucky to be in this school together. These moments remind me of the unique, special environment we are building for our children, and I couldn’t be more thankful for the partnership we have with each of you.
Best, Shelley Brown Head of Early Childhood and Lower School
